Questions

Answers

Are Sat Nav systems and Camera Detectors compicated to install and can they be transferred between vehicles?

All the sat nav and speed camera detectors we sell are very simple to fit. They come with a windscreen bracket to attach the unit to the inside of the screen and normally power or charge from the cigarette lighter socket. Both sat nav and speed camera detectors are completely portable and can be easily transferred between vehicles

If you would prefer something a little more professionally fitted, Snooper products are compatible with a selection of custom fit brackets which clip over your vehicle's air vent. In addition, the Origin B2 speed camera detector requires a professional install which looks very neat. Even when mounted in this way systems can still be removed from your vehicle and transferred easily if necessary.

How do your systems power themselves?

All Satellite Navigation devices have a built in rechargeable battery lasting around 3/4 hours depending on which system you go for. Should your journey extend past this time, every system is supplied with a cigarette lighter socket adapter which simply plugs into the cigarette lighter to power the unit.

When you arrive at your destination, you can recharge the battery using your mains adapter.

How often is the mapping software updated?

Generally speaking, an updated version of mapping software is released every three months - you wouldn't have bought a new road atlas every three months so we recommend that you update every 18-24 months given that the road networks aren't subject to that much change. A new SD card would cost in the region of £99.

How up to date are the maps?

Because we only hold a small amount of stock and prefer to drop ship directly with the manufacturer, each unit dispatched contains the very latest mapping software available.

How do i install the mapping onto my Sat Nav system?

Most systems either come with the mapping already pre-installled or within your package there will be an SD card that slots into the side of the unit in a similar way to a sim card slotting into a mobile phone.

Why do some Sat Nav systems require subscriptions for speed camera updates?

Some sat nav systems offer free camera databases and updates, but the content of these databases is not as accurate. The data provided is not professionally managed or verified. This means that it will not be accurate and will miss some cameras, it will also mean that it is not updated on a regular basis.

Companies such as Snooper and Road Angel do charge for their camera updates, but their databases are far more comprehensive, include mobile sites as well as fixed sites and are updated daily to ensure they are always up to date. They may be more expensive but if you really value your license they are worth every penny. See the individual product pages for further details.

How long does the battery last on a sat nav system?

Most batteries will last around 3-4 hours during normal usage before they require re-charging.

Do Sat Nav systems have voice prompts?

All navigation products on the site offer full verbal directions as well as 2D and 3D maps to make sure you know where you are going. Most units offer a selection of male or female voices and even different languages, and celebrity voices on some models!

Are speed camera detectors legal?

The Road Safety Bill is currently being processed and intends to ban the sale of RADAR DETECTORS from the middle of 2008. Products using GPS to alert drivers to the location of safety cameras will remain perfectly legal as they are now.

Do Sat Nav systems detect laser?

No, none of the Sat Nav systems on the market incorporate a laser detector for alerting you to mobile cameera sites. However, Snooper and Road Angel have included the locations of common laser 'hotspots' on their GPS camera database. This means that whilst they won't detect the laser signal, they will alert you to the fact that you are approaching a "High Riskzone" meaning that there is a distinct possibility that there will be a laser gun in operation.

Can I come and collect system from you directly?
