East Lothian have set their mobile safety camera sites live for the summer, targeting speeding motorists on more rural blackspots in the area.

Just three locations have been earmarked for regular visits by the mobile safety camera van so ensure safety and make sure drivers obey speed limits.

The mobile camera van will target the following positions;
B1345 – Drem to Dirleton,
B1377- Drem to Ballencrieff and
A198/B1345 Dirleton Toll roads

The three locations have a history of speeding resulting in injuries, collision and motoing offenses.

Research carried out by Road Safety Scotland revealed that the worst accidents in Scotland happen on country roads with three out of four road deaths occurring. The most common causes of these fatalities are loss of control and driving too fast for the conditions.

Speeding Bikers are the Target for Staffordshire

This Bank Holiday weekend saw the launch of Operation Octane 2012 which is aimed at tackling irresponsible speeding motorcyclists on the roads of Staffordshire.

Cars, bikes, mobile speed camera vehicles and Staffordshire’s Air Operations Unit will all be used to monitor rider behaviour across the region.

Operation Octane 2012 has good intentions and wants to reduce the number of riders who are killed or seriously injured on the roads of Staffordshire. According to latest figures, motorcyclists accounted for around 21% of incidents in Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent involving a death or serious injury. This is despite motorcyclists representing only 1% of all traffic on the roads.

In 2011, seven bikers were killed with a further 44 suffering serious injuries and an astonishing 283 with minor injuries. This underlines the importance of tackling irresponsible riding.

Chief Inspector Steve Smytheman, said: “Making roads safer is a top priority for public service partners across Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent.

“We’re determined to reduce the number of motorcyclists who are killed or seriously injured, using both enforcement and education. Through initiatives such as BikeSafe we’re working with bikers on the roadside to discuss safety issues.”
