Simple operation
The benefit of the Forerunner 210 is it’s simplicity, which leaves you to focus on your workout. Out of the box you might need to charge it then you can take it outdoors to pick up GPS signal. Hotfix GPS satellite prediction ensures that you are never left waiting for a GPS signal and once obtained, you do not lose it throughout your session, even under heavy tree cover and around tall buildings. All you then need to do is answer a few basic setup questions and you’re on your way. Press start to get on your way and when you’re done, hit stop - it really is that simple.
Advanced training
If you want to take your training further, Forerunner 210 lets you create customised interval sessions and see your pace for each one. For indoor use you can pair the Forerunner 210 with a compatible cadence / speed sensor to gain training data in the absence of GPS. Forerunner 210 then uploads all this data to the Garmin Connect free online training community where you can view training information in more detail.
Put your heart into it
The Forerunner 201HR version comes bundled with the Garmin premium heart rate monitor to track and display your heart rate in beats per minute. There are five heart rate zones on the 210, which you can customise to your exact zones. You are then able to train within specific heart rate zones and set up alerts for when you stray above or below your targets. Forerunner 210 tracks calories burned during a workout using heart rate based calorie computation.
Indoor training
If you want to train indoors with any normal GPS watch, you’re stuck because of the lack of GPS signal. Garmin have made the Forerunner 210 compatible with the optional Foot pod. The Foot pod snaps easily onto your shoe and picks up running data using an advanced accelerometer and wirelessly transmits this data to your Forerunner 210 watch. This data is 98% accurate for most runners straight out of the box so you lose very little by bringing your training indoors.
Upload data wirelessly for analysis
Whatever your ability or reason for training, reviewing your progress is a great motivator. Forerunner 210 connects to your PC or Mac to upload all of your activity data to Garmin Connect, a free website for data analysis and sharing. Here you can see a map overview of your recent routes and performance data. In the Garmin Connect centre, you can create goals, adjust heart rate zones and download everything to your Forerunner 210 ready for next time.
