GPSMAP 78s is the ideal GPS for boaters and watersports enthusiasts alike, who want the best handheld out there. GPSMAP 78s is rugged and features a 3-axis compas, barometric altimeter, high sensitivity GPS antenna plus an SD card slot for adding maps and charts. It also floats should it end up in the water!
GPSMAP 78s comes with a built in worldwde basemap which is backed up by the integrated high-sensitivity GPS antenna featuring HotFix. HotFix uses the latest GPS technology to connect to satellites quicker and maintains a stronger signal throughout use. This WAAS-enbled GPS antenna will track your location under dense tree cover on land and under the thickest of clouds out on the water. You can count on GPSMAP 78s to guide you when you need it most.
GPSMAP78s has a built-in 3-axsis tilt-compensated electronic compass which, shows your heading even when you're standing still without holding it level. Changes in pressure are tracked by the integrated barometric altimeter over time to pinpoint your exact altitude. It can even be used to plot barometric pressure to help keep an eye on changing weather conditions.
GPSMAP 78s features wireless sharing of waypoints, routes, tracks and geocaches, with other compatible device users. So, you are able to send friends the locations of your favourite fishing spots for example. Data sharing is simple, just hit "send" to transfer information to users.
GPSMAP 78s is compatible with the vast selection of Garmin maps covering marine, topographic and road all available on microSD card. BlueChart g2 preloaded cards will expand the oceans for you and guarantee you a great days boating. Garmin City Navigator NT map data will give you turn by turn road routing. All you need to do is slot a compatible map into the SD card slot which is conveniently hidden away in the waterproof battery compartment to protect it from getting wet.
GPSMAP78s is also compatible with Custom Maps - Free Garmin software which transforms your existing paper and electronic maps into downloadable maps for your GPS handheld.
Connect and Analyse
Following a day out with your Garmin GPSMAP 78s, whether it be on land Geocaching or on water boating, you are able to upload, store and analyse data captured on your device. Garmin Connect will do it all for you. Simply connect, upload your days activity and then view details of our trip on the activity table. You can even view your entire journey on Google Earth.
GPSMAP 78s supports geocaching GPX files for downloading geocaches and details directly to your unit. Paperless is much easier to carry and you're even helping the environment in the process. GPSMAP stores key information for you to use when out and about including location, terrain, difficulty, hints and descriptions. The benefit to you is that you no longer need to enter coordinates and carry paper printouts which don't survive too well in the rain and the wind!
