DRIVERS waste up to £18million a year in unnecessary fines because they fail to pay speeding tickets and other penalty notices on time.One in three (32 per cent) of the 1.8million fixed penalty notices issued in 2010 were paid late, according to Home Office figures.

M25 speed limit controls extended to Kent

The variable speed limit has reduced crashes on the M25 in Surrey, the Highways Agency said
Variable speed limits are being introduced on the M25, near the Dartford crossing in Kent.

The Highways Agency said the system, already used on the motorway in Surrey and near Heathrow, was being introduced at Dartford from Wednesday.
Senior project manager John Martin claimed the move would help to reduce congestion and make journeys safer.
The speed limits are being brought in between junction 2 for Darenth and junction 3 for Swanley. -
Speed Cameras now targeting motorcyclists

A new speed camera campaign is being launched across Devon and Cornwall to reduce the number of motorcyclists being killed on the region's roads.
The Peninsula Road Safety Partnership has revealed there will be an increased safety camera presence at weekends and in the evenings throughout the summer.

Truck driver carrying $100k in ammo arrested after making wrong turn into Mexico

PHOENIX -- A Valley businessman is out $100,000 after a truck carrying his ammunition made a wrong turn in Texas. The driver is now in a Mexican prison.

Satnav Showdown: France Clamp Down

As of late, France has shown signs of becoming particularly strict with their motoring laws and legislations, and it seems their ‘on-board breathalyzer’ law was only the first of things to come. Satellite navigation systems which feature an active speed camera detector can now land motorists in hot water, so satnav manufacturers are advising customers to switch off the speed camera alert function to avoid punishment. Motorists found to be using a satnav with built-in active speed camera detector features can expect to face a hefty fine of around €1500, meaning tourists taking a leisurely road trip around the country could quickly have their break ruined if they fail to adhere to France’s new legislation.
