Raytheon Missile Systems, headquartered at Arzona has developed a new Wing kit that provides satellite navigation guidance to the torpedoes dropped from aircraft. Dubbed as Raytheon Fish Hawk Wing Kit, it is crafted to attach on Raytheon’s MK-54 Torpedo.With the help of the information from the control room and the GPS navigation system, Raytheon Fish Hawk Wing Kit can guide the torpedo to the target area. When the system reaches at a particular location in the lower altitude, the Wing kit unchains the torpedo. Along with the torpedo, it releases a parachute as well. This parachute will lessen the speed of the torpedo while entering the water. Once it launches the water, the sonar guide and the inertial navigation system will take the torpedo to the determined target.
Raytheon Fish Hawk Wing Kit, which is developed for US Navy is ready to exhibit this week at the Singapore Airshow. Reportedly, US Navy expects to sign a contract for the manufacture of torpedo kits to match P-8 Poseidon this year.
